Description
Teltonika RUT206: 4G for serial equipment
The RUT206 is a small industrial router that connects serial devices to the internet over 4G LTE. Its RS232 and RS485 ports link directly to energy meters, PLCs, controllers and other equipment that predates Ethernet, and the router speaks the protocols that equipment uses: Modbus, DNP3 and DLMS.
It’s also easy to install. The 2-pin DC input takes 9 to 57 V, or you can skip the power cable entirely and run it over PoE from a switch or injector. Two SIM slots keep it online if one carrier drops, and a microSD slot gives it local storage for logged data. Teltonika’s Remote Management System (RMS) lets you monitor it and change settings remotely.

Where the RUT206 fits
- Energy and utility meters: read DLMS and Modbus meters over 4G, without running a cable back to an office.
- PLCs and industrial control: convert Modbus RTU to Modbus TCP so a SCADA system or cloud platform can poll serial equipment remotely. Add a static IP SIM if your system needs a fixed address to connect to.
- Solar, pumps and remote assets: low power draw and a wide-temperature case suit cabinets at unmanned sites.
- PoE installs: one Ethernet cable from a switch carries power and data, which keeps cabinet wiring simple.

Teltonika RUT206 FAQs
Does the RUT206 work on US networks?
Yes. The RUT206 is FCC and PTCRB certified and approved by AT&T. With a Titus multi-carrier SIM it connects to AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile and uses the strongest signal.
What is the RUT206’s serial port used for?
It connects equipment that talks over RS232 or RS485, such as energy meters, PLCs, controllers and sensors. The router passes that data over 4G, so you can read or control the equipment remotely.
Can the RUT206 convert Modbus RTU to Modbus TCP?
Yes. It works as a Modbus gateway, so a SCADA system or cloud platform can poll serial Modbus RTU devices over the network using Modbus TCP. It also supports DNP3 and DLMS.
Can the RUT206 be powered over Ethernet?
Yes. The LAN port accepts standard 802.3af PoE or passive PoE from 16 to 57 V, so one cable can carry power and data. It can also run from its 2-pin DC input.
Should I choose the RUT206 or the RUT241?
Choose the RUT206 if you need to connect serial equipment, power the router over PoE or use two physical SIMs. The RUT241 is cheaper, with one SIM slot plus eSIM and no serial port, and suits a single Ethernet device or small site.
Can you ship the RUT206 pre-configured?
Yes. Order it with a Titus SIM and we’ll install the SIMs, set up the private APN, VPN and your security settings, and test it before it ships.
